  • Semedo set to join Wolves
  • Barcelona chasing Dest and Aarons
  • Semedo to replace Doherty at Wolverhampton

FC Barcelona continues its overhaul and the latest name said to be leaving is Nelson Semedo. The Portuguese right-back is said to be headed to Wolverhampton FC. The 26-year-old is likely to fill in the void left by Matt Doherty who moved to Tottenham.

The Wolves have dangled a $44 million offer to Barca for Semedo as they do their player reshuffling. Aside from Doherty, another player that the Wanderers dealt away was Diogo Jota who is now with Liverpool FC, the Guardian reported.

Semedo’s exit was expected as Ronald Koeman revamps the roster. With the impending exit of the Portuguese football player, Koeman has his sights on a couple of players. They are Sergino Dest of Ajax and Max Aarons of Norwich City, ESPN reported.

Semedo has seen his stock dip since Koeman took over. Sergi Roberto has earned the nod for Koeman, playing 90 minutes in Barcelona’s friendly match against Elche.

Since moving to Camp Nou in 2017, Semedo was never able to hit his stride. So far, he has made 124 appearances for the club.'

Also, this is not the first time that a club was linked to the Portuguese player. Atletico Madrid was close to signing him last summer but nothing fell through. Once the deal is sealed, Barca is expected to use the funds to take in players needed for other positions. One department that needs addressing is the defense which makes Dest and Aarons as Koeman’s prime targets.

Between the two, Barca may have to act fast if they want to take in Dest. Sources tell ESPN that Bayern Munich is also interested in the 19-year-old right-back. Blaugrana is not having much luck as well as Aarons with Norwich rejecting their advances.

As things stand now, Koeman needs to identify players they can unload before focusing on their targets. Arturo Vidal is set to move to Inter Milan while Ivan Rakitic has already left Camp Nou.

Semedo’s exit could also help improve Barca’s chance on another target, Eric Garcia of Manchester City. There are likely other players on Koeman’s radar as the rebuilding continues for FC Barcelona.
