Barcelona went back home from Bernabeu devastated and sources described the team’s dressing room as “f---ed up, resigned and dejected.”

Following the Clásico defeat to Real Madrid, Barcelona's trip back home was filled with silence. According to AS, "f---ed up, resigned and dejected" were the three words used to summarize Barcelona's dressing room by a source after the awful loss Sunday night.

The return trip to Barcelona even felt like a funeral mainly because the team feels like they let Madrid off the hook just when they looked at the point of surrender. Reports claim that players had long faces and the bus was filled with dead silence on the said trip. Not even Josep Maria Bartomeu tried to raise spirits. Quique Setién tried to lift the team with a brief chat after the game in the dressing room and thanked the players for giving their all after the game before they got back on the bus.

Ultimately, Barca now lost the top spot in the league and have to chase rather than lead.

Real Madrid’s epic win made them leaders in La Liga and have been given a timely boost of moral for their return trip to Manchester in Europe.

Looking back at the Clasico defeat, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi struggled and saw one of his records broken by Real Madrid youngster Vinicius Jr.

The 19-year-old netted the opening goal against Barcelona in El Clasico and surpassed a record held by Messi in the process.

“Leo” held the previous record this century after scoring a hat-trick in 2007 for Barcelona. But Vinicius Jr. now becomes the youngest player to net in the fixture this season.

Vinicius Jr. broke into the penalty box and via a deflection from former Manchester United man Gerard Pique, he put Los Blancos 1-0 up. Mariano Diaz joined the party and gave Los Blancos the win and consigned Barca to their fifth league defeat of the season.

To make the scenery even worse for Messi and Barcelona, the youngster set the new benchmark in front of a celebrating Ronaldo as Real Madrid went back to the top of La Liga with the 2-0 win.

Messi has failed to find the net once since Ronaldo left Spain for Juventus in the summer of 2018. The 32-year-old has now gone five Clasicos without finding the net, or even providing an assist, a run that curiously coincides exactly with Ronaldo's Madrid exit. Overall, it has been 11 times Messi has failed to score in his previous 15 El Clasico appearances in all competitions.
