Batgirl Downloadable Content Coming To ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ This Month
After seeing Barbara Gordon as her Oracle alias in recent games, fans will finally be able to step into the shoes of Barbara when she was Batgirl in the upcoming “Batgirl: A Matter of Family” downloadable content (DLC) for “Batman: Arkham Knight.” The content will be available July 14 for those who purchase the $40 “Arkham Knight” season pass, but it can also be purchased separately for $6.99.
Normally, the DLC will be available for all the platforms for which “Arkham Knight” has been released, but due to ongoing problems with the PC version of the game, it seems that the "Batgirl" DLC will hit only consoles, GameSpot reported. It’s possible that the DLC will be available to PC users after the issues are resolved, but no concrete information has been confirmed.
Previous story add-ons for “Arkham Knight” -- like the Harley Quinn and Red Hood story packs that were available for pre-order -- have been limited in content. But that doesn’t appear to be the case with the “Batgirl: A Matter of Family” DLC. Games Radar stated that the character will be in an entirely new location with her own side quests and secrets.
The storyline will be set before the events of “Arkham Knight,” though it seems like it will be more of a standalone story for Batgirl instead and won’t be tying into the events of “Arkham Knight.” Barbara will also have dual gameplay moments with Tim Drake, the third Robin in both the comics and the game. Fans who’ve played the game know that both characters are romantically involved with each other, which is exclusive to the game series. (The comics had Barbara date Dick Grayson, the first Robin, who eventually took up the Nightwing mantle to step out of Batman’s shadow.)
Not many other details have been revealed about Barbara’s upcoming adventure, including who the villain is. Fans will have to wait only a week, however, as “Batgirl: A Matter of Family,” the first of six DLC packs for “Batman: Arkham Knight,” arrives next week.
