The search for the lead actress in the upcoming “Batgirl” film has begun, and two actresses have reportedly emerged as the top contenders.

“Five Feet Apart” star Haley Lu Richardson and “In the Heights” cast member Leslie Grace are two of the women who are being seriously considered to take on the starring role in the HBO Max movie.

Richardson, who has starred in films like “The Edge of Seventeen” and “Columbus,” was previously praised for her work in the 2020 film “Unpregnant.”

Meanwhile, Grace has earned three Latin Grammy Award nominations and garnered mainstream attention after starring in the film based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights.”

However, they are not the only big-name actresses in the running for the iconic role of Batgirl. Zoey Deutch, who appeared in “Zombieland: Double Tap,” and “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” star Isabela Merced are also competing for the part.

The names of the four actresses aren’t a guarantee that any one of them will become the new Batgirl. The list of actresses up for the part may grow over the next few weeks.

Although plot details about the upcoming film are unknown, Batgirl’s secret identity will be Barbara Gordon, the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon.

The character was initially introduced in 1961 as Betty Kane before being replaced in the DC Comics in 1967.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, directors of “Bad Boys for Life,” are expected to direct the upcoming “Batgirl” movie. Realse date details are not yet available.
