Pink joked that Jon Bon Jovi "broke" her heart when she was a child while accepting the Icon Award during Sunday's 2021 Billboard Music Awards.
Bon Jovi and Pink shared the stage at the 2021 BBMAs when he presented the trophy to her for her outstanding musical career and impact. In her acceptance speech, the "Just Give Me a Reason" singer joked that she would take the award as an "apology" for him breaking her heart when he married his wife, Dorothea Hurley.
"Okay, so I have to tell you — I think you might already know this — but I did not come out of my room for a week when you married Dorothea [in 1989]. I was 8. I ripped your poster off my wall, and I replaced you with Sebastian Bach," Pink said after accepting the trophy.
"I'm very glad that you found lasting love Jon, but you broke my heart. I take this as an apology. I accept," she added while laughing.
Pink also gave a special shoutout to her 9-year-old daughter Willow Sage for nailing their acrobatic performance for her song "Cover Me in Sunshine." She also thanked everyone who came out and watched.
"I love what I do, and I love the people that I get to do it with," she continued. "And we're pretty good at what we do, but it wouldn't matter if no one came to see us and play with us. So all you guys out there and around the world, thank you for coming out. Thank you for letting us all feel together. I cannot wait until we can do it again, and until we can just sweat all over each other."
"This is an absolute honor. Dream big because what if it comes true?" she concluded her speech.
Meanwhile, Bon Jovi praised Pink as an artist, saying "she had it all — talent, energy, a message in her songs and a stage presence that only the greats have."
"The second time Pink stunned me was when I met her when she was about 22 years old. She told me she had a crush on me when she was just 7 years old, and that when she heard that I'd been married, broke her heart," Bon Jovi was quoted by People as saying, before adding while laughing, "Well, I felt bad and tried to make up for it by sending her a life-size flower arrangement and a pair of my leather pants with a note that said, 'Now you can finally get in my pants.'"
According to him, they have since become friends "not in that fake music business kind of way, but real friends."
In addition to Pink's performance with Willow, the singer also performed her song "All I Know So Far," the title track from her new live album, along with several of her biggest hits, including "Get the Party Started," "So What," "Who Knew," "Just Like a Pill" and "Just Give Me a Reason" before her speech.
Aside from Pink, the Icon Award has been presented to several of the biggest names in music, including Mariah Carey, Céline Dion, Prince and Jennifer Lopez.
