Beer Recall 2022: Coors Light, Keystone Light Pulled Over Mysterious Gooeyness

Molson Coors (TAP) has issued a recall for both its Coors Light and Keystone Light beers after some consumers noticed what they are calling a gooey texture to the beverage.

The beer maker issued the recall, saying it was alerted to a quality issue with some of its Coors Light and Keystone Light beers produced in Trenton, Ohio, according to a notice posted by St. Louis distributor Dierbergs Markets.

The beer has been pulled from store shelves as a result of the recall, which Molson Coors said was to “not disappoint consumers.”

• Coors Light 24 Pack 12oz. Cans with UPC: 00-71990-31600
• Coors Light 30 Pack 12oz. Cans with UPC: 00-71990-30030
• Keystone Light 15 Pack 12oz. Cans with UPC: 00-71990-48045
• Keystone Light 24 Pack 12oz. Cans with UPC: 00-71990-48006

In a statement to Nexstar, Molson Coors said, “There has been no recall of Coors Light or Keystone Light, and there are no food-safety issues related to either beer. We recently became aware of an issue on only one canning line at only one of our breweries that supplies these two beers to a relatively small number of states.

“The impacted product does not pose a food-health risk, but it doesn’t meet our quality standards. As a result, we chose to work with our distributors and retailers to voluntarily withdraw impacted packs from the market.”

Molson Coors pulled the beers after a series of [NSFW] videos, and [NSFW] comments popped up on social media about the “gelatinous” liquid in the cans.

One user said, “I’ve never seen or unfortunately tasted anything like it.”

It was unclear at the time of writing if the Coors Light and Keystone Light beer recall was a result of the social media videos and comments.

As of Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. ET, shares of Molson Coors were trading at $51.99, up 62 cents, or 1.22%.
