KEY POINTS
- Belkin’s new dongle turns a traditional speaker into an AirPlay 2 enabled device
- The Soundform Connect Audio Adapter provides support for HomeKit
- Connecting can be done through the 3.5 mm jack or the Optical Digital Audio
Belkin has officially launched the Soundform Connect Audio Adapter with support for AirPlay 2. The dongle turns a traditional speaker into an AirPlay 2 enabled speaker with support for Siri, iOS and macOS.
On May 20, Belkin officially unveiled its Soundform Connect Audio Adapter with support for AirPlay 2. Priced at $99.99, the product is available for purchase through the Belkin website.
In a report provided by Belkin International, the company described the product as an adapter that “enhances multi-room audio experiences and brings harmony between old and new audio products through AirPlay 2 and HomeKit.”
Once an audio device is connected to the Soundform Connect Audio Adapter, an iPhone or iPad detects it as an AirPlay 2 speaker. With the dongle, audio streaming can be done from an iOS or macOS device to HomePod, Apple TV and multiple AirPlay 2 devices simultaneously.
For an immersive AirPlay 2 experience, simply connect the Soundform Connect Audio dongle to any powered sound system. Tap the AirPLay icon on the AirPlay 2 compatible Apple device to play music or podcasts.
As it provides Siri support, a user can simply command the smart assistant to play their music, adjust volumes, and more through their iOS devices. Users can also expect reduced sound latency as it is Wi-Fi and not Bluetooth-based, 9to5 Mac reported.
The Soundform Connect Audio Adapter also features support for HomeKit. With the HomeKit support, a user can ask Siri to play a song on a specific area of the house where devices are assigned such as in the kitchen or living room, MacRumors reported.
Connecting using the adapter with AirPlay 2 support is easy. Any powered speaker compatible with its 3.5 mm headphone jack or the Optical Digital Audio can easily connect.
The dongle is lightweight, compact, and portable making it easy to keep in a safer place after connecting. It is powered through USB-C ports.
The launch did not come as a surprise, a leak from the FCC filing back in February hinted at the Belkin Soundform Connect Audio Adapter launch. Previous reports also suggested that the dongle with AirPlay 2 support is similar to the AirPort Express in some aspects.
Although Apple stopped the AirPort Express production, the Belkin Soundform Connect Audio Adapter launch brings back some of the Apple halted product’s features.
