Bellamy Young Teases Future Plans After ‘Scandal’ Season 7 Wraps Up
Bellamy Young currently plays the role of President Mellie Grant in ABC’s “Scandal” Season 7. The hit series is set to wrap up next year, and the actress shared what she plans to do afterwards.
While speaking with People, Young said that she already has her eyes set on what she wants to do next. Since starring in the series, she realized how important it is to be of service to others.
“You know, as this journey comes to a close, what comes next, and I felt being a part of things, and how I can continue to be of service. To continue to be a part of the conversation as we all move forward in the nation. It’s a crucial time in our country,” she said.
By the looks of it, Young is open to doing civil service. “I personally think that’s the only way to stay sane, much less humble and grateful. To be of service. It can be on a very small level, it can be on a grander level as you’re able but there’s a spectrum every day,” she added.
Meanwhile, Young is extremely grateful to executive producer Shonda Rhimes for giving her the opportunity to give life to a very strong and powerful character. In the beginning of the series, Young’s Mellie was only featured in approximately three episodes. But throughout the years, the character has made more impact on the show.
“I’m really loving being president. It’s so extra fun because in a White House that’s coming out of the brain of Shonda Rhimes, to be the first single female president, it just adds a whole other layer, because we get to really talk about men being comfortable with women in power,” she explained.
In the most recent episode of “Scandal” Season 7, titled “Adventures in Babysitting,” Mellie and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) asserted their power like they’ve never done before. The lead character, Olivia, currently works as Mellie’s chief-of-staff.
“Scandal” Season 7 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
