Ben Schwartz Gives 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3' Update: 'It's Going To Be Crazy'
Ben Schwartz, who is known for voicing Sonic the Hedgehog, has opened up about the third installment of the "Sonic" movie franchise. The 40-year-old actor said the upcoming movie will "go bananas."
"It's very exciting and surreal," Schwartz told The Playlist, before sharing his experience as a voice-over artist. "I've been doing voiceover since 2005, so it feels really exciting that something I did in the VO world is starting to hit with people and people are getting excited by it."
The actor went on to share how the second installment of the movie, "Sonic The Hedgehog 2," was filled with excitement. He said the next one is going to be crazy.
"For ['Sonic 2'], we blew it out so much, and for '3,' [sic] it's going to be bananas, it's going to be crazy! I can't wait," he added.
The second installment of the movie hit the theatres on April 8 and it introduced popular characters like Knuckles and Tails. The first installment of the franchise, "Sonic the Hedgehog," was released in June 2020. The movies are adaptations of the video game series of the same name. Video game company Sega was one of the developers of the game.
The producers of the franchise, Toby Ascher and Neal H. Moritz, had earlier opened up about the Sonic cinematic universe and how they were planning to expand the franchise.
"We're creating a Sonic cinematic universe, so we knew we were going to add characters, like Tails and Knuckles; new to the films but beloved by gamers all over the world," Ascher said.
"[Sonic 1] was a great experience for us as filmmakers, and as movie lovers. Now, we're even more excited to expand that world, adding new characters, bigger worlds, a new, incredible journey, and more action and adventure," Moritz explained.
Aside from Moritz and Ascher, Sega CEO Haruki Satomi also serves as a producer of the movie franchise. The director of the first two installments, Jeff Fowler, hinted that there could be a spin-off series based on Knuckles' character. However, there is no official confirmation yet on that.
