Bernard Hopkins: “Right there alongside beating (Felix) Trinidad”
Following his historic win against Jean Pascal, Bernard Hopkins compared the victory to his 2001 win over Felix Trinidad.
This is in the top two moments of my career, right there alongside beating Trinidad, Hopkins said.
At the age of 46, Hopkins became the oldest title winner ever, winning both the WBC and IBO light-heavyweight belts.
You don't get a chance to do this too often, Hopkins said. You're supposed to win titles when you are younger, in your 20s, not when you are 46.
Pascal, who lost by unanimous decision, was gracious in defeat saying, Bernard fought a great fight, he is a great champion.
Hopkins earned a 116-112, 115-114, 115-113 decision by the three judges. Hopkins came alive after the early rounds and handily managed Pascal, who is 18-years his younger.
George Foreman, another boxer who had success later in his career, congratulated Hopkins saying, I'm happy for Hopkins and I'm happy for mature athletes.
