'Best Funeral Ever' Will Be A Real Television Show [VIDEO]
“Best Funeral Ever” sounds like a joke at first, but it is, in fact, a real show. TLC has just ordered the reality show "Best Funeral Ever” and it will premiere on Dec. 26.
Just in time for the holiday season, TLC will be airing its latest reality television program, “Best Funeral Ever.” With hits such as “Toddlers and Tiaras,” “Breaking Amish” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” TLC is looking to strike gold again with “Best Funeral Ever.”
“Best Funeral Ever” will focus on a rather unusual mortuary, notes Entertainment Weekly, the Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas. The funerals Golden Gate stages go beyond just a memorial service and viewing. What Golden Gate Funeral Home offers, according to funeral director John Beckwith Jr., is a funeral with a theme along with a celebratory party.
According to EW, some funerals that Golden Gate have put together include a Christmas-themed ceremony with elves and reindeer, and a barbeque-themed funeral with live pigs and a BBQ sauce fountain.
A funeral is meant to celebrate the deceased, says Beckwith, and that's what “Best Funeral Ever” will focus on. According to Beckwith, "The Golden Gate experience is our version of the traditional African-American home-going celebration. We do not produce generic funerals; everybody's experience has to be different,” reports Reuters.
An example of this “home-going” is a funeral for a man who was disabled, preventing him from enjoying rides and other attractions at the state fair. To give him the opportunity to experience all the excitement of games and rides that he could not enjoy while alive, the Golden Gate Funeral Home put together a State Fair-themed funeral, reports Reuters.
The premiere episode of “Best Funeral Ever” will air on TLC on Dec. 26 at 8 p.m. EST. A trailer can be viewed below.
