“Game of Thrones” Daenerys
“Game of Thrones” has featured some of the most epic deaths of any TV series during it’s six seasons. HBO

Death is central to the plot of “Game of Thrones” — that’s the harsh reality fans have come to accept. No one is safe and while some deaths on the HBO series leave you asking “why them?!” others remind you how sweet revenge really is.

Throughout the six-season run of “Game of Thrones,” nearly 100 characters have died. Some characters, like Ned Stark (Sean Bean), Princess Shireen (Kerry Ingram) and Hodor (Kristian Nairn), were innocents, sacrificed in the game of thrones. Others had it coming.

Here are the most satisfying deaths in “Game of Thrones” history:

Viserys Targaryen

Viserys Targaryen (Harry Lloyd) was one of the first characters “Game of Thrones” viewers met. He’s Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) older brother who married her off to Khal Drogo (Jason Momoa). After threatening Khal Drogo, Daenerys ordered her brother’s death by “golden crown” in Season 1, episode 6.

Robert Baratheon

Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) ruled the Iron Throne when “Game of Thrones” viewers met him. He was locked in an awful marriage to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), who essentially had him killed. Robert died during a drunken hunting accident involving a wild boar in Season 1, episode 7.

Xaro Xhoan Daxos

Xaro Xhoan Daxos (Nonso Anozie) offered to marry Daenerys in Season 2 after learning that the Iron Throne was vacant. His lust for power lead him to kill the rest of The Thirteen and steal Daenerys’ dragons. She retrieved her dragons, but refused to flee that corner of the Seven Kingdoms before exacting her revenge.

Daenerys had Xaro locked in the secret treasure vault he showed her. She and her men ransacked his lavish home until they have enough for a ship. While we didn’t see him die, it’s widely believed he never made it out of the vault.

Joffrey Baratheon

Joffrey Baratheon (Jack Gleeson) was Robert and Cersei’s eldest son who took the Iron Throne after his father’s death. Joffrey was initially set to marry Sansa, whom he tortured for months before it was decided that she was unfit for marriage for no apparent reason. On the day of his wedding to Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), he was poisoned by an anonymous attendee.

Tyrion Lannister was blamed for the murder and paid the price. This left him angry, as it would anyone. His frustration lead to a series of unfortunate events, including another death.

Locke

Locke (Noah George Taylor) was the man-at-arms for House Bolton. His affiliation with the Dreadfort alone was enough to warrant his death for most “Game of Thrones” viewers, but he was also a terrible man. He was killed in Season 4, episode 5 by Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright), who snapped his neck.

Lysa Arryn

Lysa Arryn (Kate Dickie) died in Season 4, episode 7. Her husband Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) pushed her through her infamous moon door. She fell hundreds of feet to her death leaving her widower to pursue other love interests.

Lysa was Catelyn Stark’s (Michelle Fairley) sister. She became Lady of the Vale on behalf of her young son Robin Arryn (Lino Faciolli), but spent her life isolated, doting on her son following the death of husband Jon Arryn (John Standing).

The Mountain

The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) was Cersei’s right-hand man. She was the brains, and he the muscle in all her sinister plots. In the hopes of killing Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascall) in Season 4, Cersei ordered a trial by combat between he and The Mountain, who raped and killed Oberyn’s sister.

The Mountain overpowered Oberyn, but not before he got his just desserts. Cersei’s strong man died in Season 4, episode 8. The cause? Poison from Oberyn’s sword.

He was later reanimated and continues to appear on “Game of Thrones.” The Mountain now hides behind his helmet.

Styr

Styr (Joseph Gatt) was Mance Rayder’s go-to guy. When the wildlings captured Jon Snow (Kit Harington) in Season 4, he gave him a hard time. Jon finally struck back, bludgeoning him to death during the battle of Castle Black in Season 4, episode 9.

Tywin Lannister

Tywin Lannister (Charles Dance) died in Season 4, episode 10. His son Tyrion shot and killed him while he sat on the toilet.

Janos Slynt

After the battle of Castle Black, Jon found himself in charge of the Night’s Watch. This didn’t sit well with every member, but their new leader refused to back down. Instead, he faced the opposition head on.

Jon ordered that Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter) have his head chopped off in Season 5, episode 3. His crime? Insubordination.

Selyse Baratheon

Princess Shireen’s mother Selyse Baratheon (Tara Fitzgerald) killed herself after allowing the Red Woman (Carice von Houten) to burn her daughter alive.

Stannis Baratheon

Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane) spent much of his tenure on “Game of Thrones” on a quest for power. He relied on the Red Woman to make him untouchable, but her experiments regularly failed to give him the strength he needed. The power hungry ruler met his maker in Season 5, episode 10 when Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) executed him.

Myranda

Myranda (Charolotte Hope) was, by all accounts, a crazy ex-girlfriend. She was cast aside when Sansa and Ramsay’s marriage was arranged and she didn’t like it one bit. In Season 5, episode 10, while trying to kill Sansa, Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) pushed Myranda off a ledge to her death.

Meryn Trant

Kingsguard member Meryn Trant (Ian Beattie) died in Season 5, episode 10. Arya Stark, who had him on her kill list, blinded him before she slit his throat. She did so by disguising herself as a prostitute in a brothel where Meryn was beating young sex workers for his own amusement.

Jon Snow

Jon Snow died in Season 5, episode 10, when members of the Night’s Watch turned on him. His death was a shock to “Game of Thrones” fans. The murder is only satisfying if you know what followed after in Season 6, episode 2 — if not, we suggest you watch and find out before Season 7!

Roose Bolton

The only Bolton worse than Ramsay was his father Roose (Michael McElhatton). He was killed in Season 6, episode 2 by his illegitimate son, who desperately wanted to rule their kingdom. Ramsay was set off by the announcement that his father was expecting a son with his new wife.

He stabbed Roose, leaving him to die in their home.

Alliser Thorne

Alliser Thorne (Owen Teale) was a high-ranking member of the Night’s Watch who refused to accept Jon Snow’s rise to power. He was in on the plot to have Jon and got what was coming to him in Season 6, episode 3 when the Lord Commander returned and ordered that he and his co-conspirators hang.

Olly

Olly (Brenock O’Connor) was also in on the plot to kill Jon. He was the youngest of the men hung for treason in Season 6, episode 3.

Khal Moro

Khal Moro (Joe Naufahu) was one of the men that rose to power after Khal Drogo’s death. He and the other Khal’s refused to see Daenerys as a legitimate ruler and talked down to her. She showed them just how powerful she was in Season 6, episode 4 by burning them all alive and walking out of the flames.

The Waif

The Waif (Faye Marsay) was a loyal follower of the Many Faced God. She tortured Arya Stark and, after a minor betrayal, set out to kill her. Before she could do so, Arya got revenge in Season 6, episode 8.

Ramsay Bolton

Ramsay Bolton and his men fell to Jon, Sansa and their ragtag army made up of various houses in Season 6, episode 9 of “Game of Thrones.” Ramsay survived the battle and became a prisoner. Sansa sought the opportunity to torture her husband, who hurt her for so long, by ordering that his own dogs eat him alive.

The High Sparrow

The High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) was one of many people Cersei killed with wildfire in Season 6, episode 10. Before his death he imprisoned many, forcing them to follow his religion. While he was supposedly a man of the Gods, his methods were as evil as they were unconventional.

Tommen Baratheon

Cersei’s youngest son killed himself in Season 6, episode 10 of “Game of Thrones” after learning that his mother killed his wife.

Walder Frey

Arya crossed another name off her kill list in Season 6, episode 10. She disguised herself and presented Walder Frey (David Bradley) with a meat pie, made of his two sons. She revealed herself before slitting his throat.
