Beyoncé's Mom, Tina Knowles Lawson, Writes An Open Letter To Daughters And Niece: 'You Guys Have Been Such A Blessing To Me'

Tina Knowles Lawson -- mother of Beyoncé and Solange Knowles -- has poured out all her love in a touching open letter for her biological and adoptive daughters and niece ahead of Mother’s Day. Lawson emphasized that even though she gave birth only to Beyoncé and Solange, she also considers adoptive daughter Kelly Rowland and niece Angela Beyince to be daughters by heart -- and she showering all four women with heartfelt messages.

Lawson started the letter by stating that she was asked to write the open note for Time’s “Letters From Mom” section, and by doing so she was reminded of how much the four women “have been a blessing” to her. She carried on to reminisce about the times Beyoncé, Solange, Kelly and Angela comforted her during the times when she felt low by adding her to their group chat and showering her with compliments, sending her crazy YouTube videos and photos of her grandchildren.

She also thanked them for the slumber parties where they watched old movies and ate ice cream after she had just divorced her then-husband Mathew Knowles, and her first date after that when the women helped her decide what to wear. She said she felt loved and supported, adding, “The roles were reversed, and it was ME who needed nurturing,” she wrote.

Good On The Inside

The fashion designer went on to say that all four women were so much more than “strong, beautiful, intelligent and smart businesswomen.” They were good on the inside as well. She then dedicated a paragraph for each of them, citing what she thought was special about them and giving them tidbits about their lives.

First off was the world-famous Queen B. Tina wished that people could see how “compassionate and kind” the singer was when she is not in front of the camera. She finished off by saying that even though Beyoncé has made a huge success out of her career, she managed to remain humble and grounded, and Tina expressed her gratefulness for her good heart.

The 59-year-old Tina then calls Solange her “rebel warrior,” acknowledging her daughter’s tendency to stand up and fight for what she believed in, no matter what. She stated a memory of when Solange was only 10 years old and started a petition to remove a bad teacher, saying that she and Solange’s dad were so proud of her “incredible, unapologetic” personality. “As tough as you are, you will drop everything to take care of someone you love,” Tina ended the dedication to Solange.

In her for letter for Rowland, Tina shared that Rowland was only 11 years old when she started living with the Knowles family, and that Tina thought Rowland was a “true survivor,” whose discipline and drive always pushed her to take better care of herself. Rowland was also the one who encouraged her to exercise and make time for herself and also the one who had the “best listening skills” who always wanted others to feel good about themselves.

Like A Daughter To Her

Lastly, Tina acknowledged that even though Beyince was her niece, the latter has always been like a daughter to her. To Tina, Beyince was the “Olivia Pope” of the family, always mature and the one who always challenged and questioned her. Tina said that Beyince was smart and perceptive, and that she could see right through things such that Tina trusted her to protect the other three women, even until now. Angie was the “family fixer” and the one who always had the others’ backs.

Tina then concluded her letter by sharing her proudest moment as a mother to the four ladies. “I would have to say it was at my recent wedding, when all four of you said in your own words that I taught by example and that I helped to make you the women you are today!” she wrote, signing off as “Mom.”

Tina ended her 31-year marriage with Mathew Knowles in December 2011 after a series of failed divorce filings following the DNA test-confirmed news that Mathew fathered a child with former "Scrubs" actress Alexsandra Wright, the Huffington Post reported. The music mogul went on to marry former model Gena Charmaine Avery in 2013, while Tina dated actor Richard Lawson. Late last month, Tina and Richard finally tied the knot in a grandiose wedding aboard a yacht in California, Pop Sugar stated.
