A Republican representative has called the Biden family the "most corrupt" in the country's political history following investigations into Hunter Biden's foreign dealings.

Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), who previously served as the chairman of the Republican Study Committee, made the comment while speaking in an interview with the New York Post on Monday.

"The Biden family is the most corrupt family in the history of American politics," he said, adding, "The biggest question facing Republican investigators: Where to begin?"

Banks' comments come as lawmakers are preparing to launch an investigation into allegations that Hunter might have participated in influence peddling. The allegations stem from an email dating back to 2011 wherein Hunter reportedly offered to provide "statistical analysis of political and corporate risks, elite networks associated with Oleg Deripaska, the Russian CEO of Basic Element company and United company RUSAL" to the U.S. aluminum firm Alcoa Inc. for $55,000. At the time, Alcoa had just signed a two-year metal supply deal with RUSAL.

The email was first revealed in October 2021 by the New York Post. The outlet cited documents obtained from a laptop Hunter abandoned at a MacBook repair shop in Delaware in April 2019.

The Alcoa situation saw renewed interest after classified documents were discovered in President Joe Biden's home in Wilmington, Delaware, as well as his vice-presidential office at the Penn Biden Center. This has led lawmakers to question whether Hunter had access to the said documents.

Earlier this month, House Republicans began investigating the Biden family, with a particular focus on the president, with aim of determining whether his decisions were influenced by his son's business dealings. The public phase of that investigation will begin on Feb. 8.

The House Oversight Committee is also expected to hold a hearing on Twitter and its handling of the New York Post's story on Hunter in 2020. The committee has already invited three former Twitter employees to testify.

In addition, the House Oversight Committee is set to launch hearings next week with the aim of investigating Hunter's influence peddling and cashing in on ties to his father who was serving as vice president at the time.
