‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 9 Finale Spoilers; Episode 24 Synopsis Released; What Will Happen In ‘The Convergence Convergence’?
At long last, CBS’ mega-hit sitcom “The Big Bang Theory” is going to wrap up Season 9 next week with the recreation of a major life event. With two characters making their relationship official in the eyes of their loved ones, the finale will force the gang to awkwardly include their parents in the fun in “The Convergence Convergence.”
During last week’s episode, Leonard (Johnny Galecki) received a visit from his mother, Dr. Beverly Hofstadter (Christine Baranski). However, he was away dealing with Sheldon (Jim Parsons) at a movie screening when she arrived, leaving it up to Penny (Kaley Cuoco) to entertain her mother-in-law. And the elder didn’t make it easy on her. It eventually came out that a resentment had been building ever since Penny and Leonard’s quickie Las Vegas wedding. Despite her often cold attitude toward her son, Leonard's mom had wanted to be there for that big moment in his life. To make up for it, Penny offered to host a second wedding where family would be invited.
That’s where we’ll find the gang in next week’s finale, planning a more traditional wedding ceremony with family. As a result, Beverly will return along with Leonard’s father, Alfred (Judd Hirsch). Unfortunately, the couple are recently divorced, so the family gathering may open some fresh emotional wounds from their split, especially for Leonard, on the day he’s supposed to pledge his life to someone, even if it’s just for show.
As if the tension weren’t bad enough for the second wedding of Leonard and Penny, Sheldon finds a way to do what he does best: make it worse. For some reason his very religious mother, Mary (Laurie Metcalf), will come to town as well and join them in the ceremonial festivities.
Meanwhile, according to the episode’s official plot synopsis from CBS, Howard (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar) are contacted by the government about the guidance system they’ve been working on. Letting their paranoia get the better of them, the duo become convinced that the U.S. government is out to get them for their technology. According to the teaser photo, posted below, their desire to stay away from government employees somehow leads them right to a traffic stop, where Howard has to convince a police officer that he’s sober.
“The Big Bang Theory” ends its Season 9 run on Thursday, May 12, at 8 p.m. EDT on CBS.
