‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Mayim Bialik Admits She Was ‘Shocked’ By Sheldon’s Proposal To Amy

“Big Bang Theory” star Mayim Bialik recently revealed that she was one with the fans who felt shocked over Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) sudden proposal to her character, Amy.

The only difference between her and viewers was that Bialik learned about the storyline during their table read for the final episode of Season 10. The fans, on the other hand, learned about the proposal much later in the actual episode. During an e-mail conversation with FOX News while Bialik is on a month-long vocal rest, she said, “I literally had no idea this proposal from Sheldon was coming. Like: none.”

Bialik also said that she has no idea what will happen in the premiere episode for Season 11 since she hasn’t received the script yet. “If you want me to tell you what happens in the season opener of Season 11… I can’t, because I don’t know. Your guess is as good as mine,” she said.

But despite not knowing what will actually happen to Amy and Sheldon in the premiere, Bialik admitted that she has some ideas for the onscreen couple. “But that’s not my job right now. My job is to wait through the summer to see what our writers decide,” she concluded.

In May, “Big Bang Theory” showrunner Steve Molaro spoke with The Hollywood Reporter to say that they also only decided that Sheldon will propose to Amy a couple of weeks before the finale aired. “A couple of week before the end of season 10, we started batting around ways it could end. Once we were in the territory that Ramona was going to be sniffing around, that seemed to be an organic way to get Sheldon proposing. We’ve known this ring has been floating around for a while so it’s not outrageous that he had the engagement ring,” he explained.

But Molaro still doesn’t know for sure if Amy will yes to Sheldon. After all, the latter proposed to his girlfriend after Ramona (Riki Lindhome) kissed him. The more important question is whether or not Sheldon will tell Amy about the kiss.

“Big Bang Theory” Season 11 will premiere on CBS on Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. EST.
