‘Big Little Lies’: Laura Dern Reveals Her Mom Is Not Happy With Her Character Rebecca

“Big Little Lies” Season 1 star Laura Dern recently revealed that her mom is not happy with how her character, Rebecca, is treating Madeline (Reese Witherspoon).

In an interview with the New York Times, the 50-year-old actress shared that her mom was shocked when she found out that she and Witherspoon are nemeses in the new HBO TV series. “My mother called me… and goes, ‘You didn’t prepare me for what a [jerk] you are.’ I’m like, ‘I didn’t know I was supposed to prepare you for any character I play!’ she said. And her mom answered, “But you’re a [jerk] to Reese.”

Perhaps her mom was caught by surprise because in real life, Dern and Witherspoon are good friends.

Meanwhile, Witherspoon’s mom is also not very pleased with her daughter’s role in the TV show. The 41-year-old actress also received a call from her mom saying that she doesn’t like “Big Little Lies” and her character. “She’s like, ‘You’re too mean. It just bothers me how mean you are,’” she shared.

In the hit HBO series, Witherspoon plays the role of Madeline, a mom-of-two who also happens to be very involved in her daughters’ activities in school. She is known for being talkative and for spreading rumors about the parents of the kids in campus.

Madeline is close friends with Jane (Shailene Woodley). The latter has a son named Iggy (Iain Armitage). Jane and Madeline have very strong opinions against Rebecca because the latter accused Iggy of biting her daughter, Amabella (Ivy George). As of late, it has not yet been proven whether or not Iggy is really the one responsible for hurting Amabella in school.

“Big Little Lies” Season 1 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
