‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Confirmed? Author Liane Moriarty Teases Her Sequel Plans
“Big Little Lies” Season 2 may eventually receive the green light from HBO.
Following the high ratings and rave reviews the series garnered for its seven-episode run, book author Liane Moriarty revealed that she’s thinking about a possible second season for the Reese Witherspoon starrer. While speaking with The Sydney Morning, Moriarty shared that the producers of “Big Little Lies” asked her to come up with possible storylines for the five female characters and their respective families.

“I wouldn’t write a book but perhaps a new story and then we’ll see what happens. I’m absolutely open to it because, once I started thinking, it was too much fun to see what I could do and to see these characters again. And there’s definitely places you can go,” she said.
In the finale episode, Madeline (Witherspoon), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Rebecca (Laura Dern) and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) came together to support each other during a very difficult and traumatizing time. After Celeste’s husband, Perry (Alexander Skarsgard), tried to physically abuse the former in front of everyone, Bonnie ran towards the scene and pushed Perry down the stairs. He was declared dead at the scene.
Talking about Bonnie’s bold move, Moriarty believes that the character deserves more storylines in Season 2. Additionally, Celeste’s life after Perry’s death can also be one of the main stories for the upcoming season. “That’s the questions that’s also a really interesting thing, when you’ve been through a relationship like that, how do you feel now? How would she feel? She’s grieving. She’s still grieving for the end of a terrible relationship and I think that would really be an interesting thing to explore,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kidman and Witherspoon have previously expressed their desire to reprise their roles if Season 2 would be a go. While speaking with TV Line after the finale, Kidman said that she would be more than willing to return if Moriarty can come up with a compelling story. “That would be a beautiful prospect,” she said.
