‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Confirmed? HBO President Hints At Renewal
Though the official announcement has not yet been made, there’s a huge possibility that HBO will renew “Big Little Lies” for a second season.
While at the Television Critics Association (TCA) summer press tour on Wednesday, July 26, HBO president Casey Bloys confirmed that he asked book author Liane Moriarty to come up with possible storylines for Season 2. “I’ll be very curious to see what she comes up with,” he said (via TV Line).

However, Bloys’ statement is not necessarily new. A few months ago, Moriarty told The Sydney Morning Herald that she was asked to think of how the stories of Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Jane (Shailene Woodley), Madeline (Reese Witherspoon) and the rest of the characters could continue in the upcoming episodes. “Big Little Lies” Season 1 only had a total of seven episodes. “I wouldn’t write a new book, but perhaps a new story, and then we’ll see what happens,” she said.
Kidman and Witherspoon previously expressed their desire to reprise their roles in Season 2, but both actresses know that it will take some time before an announcement could be made. Unfortunately, executive producer and director Jean-Marc Valle did not share their sentiments. After “Big Little Lies” Season 1 wrapped up in April, Valle said that the finale is already the best way to end the limited series.
“No, this is the perfect ending. There is no way; there’s no reason to make a Season 2. That was meant to be a one-time deal, and it’s finishing in a way where it’s for the audience to imagine what can happen. If we do a Season 2, we’ll break that beautiful thing and spoil it,” he told TV Line.
But “Big Little Lies” became a huge hit among viewers who want to know exactly what happens to the characters, most especially Celeste, following the death of her husband. The women in the series also came together after Perry’s (Alexander Skarsgard) demise. Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz), who was responsible for killing Perry, has also not been convicted of any crime in the finale.
“Big Little Lies” Season 1 premiered on HBO Feb. 19.
