Bill Gates recently purchased a lavish oceanfront home in Del Mar, California.
Along with his wife Melinda Gates, the Microsoft co-founder bought the second-priciest beachfront property in San Diego county History, Los Angeles Times reported. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the massive California property cost Gates a whopping $43 million and has been recorded as one of the largest deals covered in the area.
The Gates’ newest oceanfront abode was constructed back in 1999 by Ken Ronchetti, who, according to San Diego Reader, is a world-renowned architect-designer. The 5,800-square-foot living space houses six bedrooms, four bathrooms, as well as two separate guesthouses. The property also includes a patio facing 120 feet of direct ocean views that usher in a blissful California beachfront spectacle.
High-end amenities are definitely a requisite for an estate that has such a steep price. The beach house features a health spa, a glass tile pool and a home theater. But the hot-tub overlooking a fire pit is the home’s finest utility and is reported to have a 10-person capacity. Meanwhile, the interior furnishings are also meticulously crafted. The home’s lime-stone flooring is an imported piece, adding a luxurious touch to an already grandiose handiwork.
This sprawling California beach house is also unlike any other. Teeming with an assortment of the finest woods, stone and abundant landscaping, the Gates’ new home truly offers a lavish retreat. Disappearing glass walls also encapsulate the structure’s exteriors, emphasizing the property’s tropical ambiance.
Other features include upgraded utilities, namely floor heating, automated lighting, climate control and security systems. The extension to the sea wall is also accessed only through a keyless entry system which was designed in conjunction with oceanographic engineers from Scripps Institute, San Diego Reader reported.
The Gates’ beach house was formerly owned by Madeline Pickens, who listed the property in early 2019 for $48 million. Pickens, who is also known as the ex-wife of oil tycoon and billionaire T. Boone Pickens, is a businesswoman and philanthropist herself from Rancho Santa Fe. Her business ventures comprise of thoroughbred horse racing and breeding, which she has managed with entrepreneur and former spouse Allen Paulson. The female tycoon also campaigns for the protection of wild horses of the American Southwest.
