The star-studded ceremony of Billboard Music Awards has been postponed due to the rising COVID-19 cases throughout the country. The show is one of the biggest musical events in the world right now and many famous musicians take the stage every year to enthrall the fans with their performances.
Billboard announced the news of the postponement on social media and noted that the date of the ceremony will be rescheduled as the world battles the coronavirus pandemic. The statement released by the producers on Twitter revealed that the decision has been taken due to the strict guidelines that have been put into place to avoid the spread of the virus.
The statement further added they will follow all the protocols and won’t take the risk since the well-being of their staff, fans, and artists is more important for them.
“In accordance with the current guidelines set forth by national and local health officials and in order to ensure the health and safety of our artists, fans, guests, and staff – we are postponing the Billboard Music Awards,” the statement read.
However, the producers also confirmed that a new date will be announced soon as they are eagerly waiting to celebrate the success of the amazing artists who made an impact in the previous year.
“For more than two decades, the Billboard Music Awards has honored the best in music based on the Billboard charts, and we look forward to celebrating the incredible artists who topped those charts over the last year,” the statement read.
Kelly Clarkson is all set to host the Billboard Music Awards for the third year in a row. The “Stronger” hitmaker was quite excited to be back for the Billboard Music Awards and noted she loves to be part of an event that truly celebrates the greatest artists in the music industry.
The acclaimed musician is only the third artist to host the Billboard Music Awards for three or more times. Kathy Griffin and rapper Ludacris are the other two celebrities who managed to host or co-host the star-studded event multiple times.
As of late, a total of 6,509 positives cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the U.S. and 115 people have died because of it. The most number of deaths have taken place in Washington; 55 people have died in the state until now.
