Billionaire Mark Cuban spent 0.072% of fortune, your dinner, on Mavericks’ parade

Mark Cuban, the flamboyant billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks, was elated following his Mavericks' win over the Miami Heat in six games to take the franchise's first NBA Title.

Cuban was so happy that, before this morning's parade, he told the City of Dallas that he would pay for the whole event that featured Mavericks players in a route across the city.

I'll pay for it because I don't think it's right for the city to have to pay for it. And let's just have some fun, Cuban said.

Like Los Angeles last year, the Dallas city officials say the city is in a budget crunch and can ill afford to pay for a celebration of a sport's championship.

Los Angeles spent an estimated $1.5 and $2 million for their parade last year. Much of the cost was put towards overtime for police and traffic control.

This year, The Dallas Morning News estimates that the parade will cost $1.2 million based on a population comparison between Los Angeles and Dallas.

Cuban, who earned his fortunes during the dot com boom by selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo in 1999, has an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion.

That means billionaire Mark Cuban spent 0.072% of his fortune on the Mavericks parade.

Assuming a median U.S. household net worth of $100,000 (it was $93,000 in a 2004 survey), that is like spending $72 for dinner at a restaurant.
