‘The Blacklist: Redemption’ Spoilers: Real Reason Why Tom Keen Leaves Original Series Revealed In New Promo [VIDEO]
“The Blacklist: Redemption” will be premiering this week, and it looks like fans will learn the reason why Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) leaves the original “The Blacklist” from the get-go.
NBC has released a new sneak peek for “The Blacklist: Redemption,” which will center on “the world’s most elusive criminals from Red’s (James Spader) infamous list coming together to form an elite mercenary team as they try to regain their self-worth after a lifetime of inflicting damage on the world,” according to Entertainment Weekly. In the series, Tom will join the team’s “brilliant and cunning chief,” Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen), who was previously revealed to be his biological mother. Tom’s nemesis, lethal assassin Matias Solomon (Edi Gathegi), will also be part of the team.
In the clip, Tom’s supposed father, Howard Hargrave (Terry O’Quinn) meets with Tom and asks for his help. This comes as a surprise as Howard was revealed to have died in a plane crash in a recent episode of “The Blacklist.” However, Howard is still alive and has approached his son in order to ask him to join Scottie’s company Halcyon and get close to her.
EW speculated that Howard may be on Scottie’s hit list, and this is why he’s asking for his son’s help in taking her down. It’s still too early to tell whether or not Tom can trust either of his parents, but it seems like he will be caught between them as Scottie is also looking for Tom.
Meanwhile, “The Blacklist” and “The Blacklist: Redemption” co-creators John Eisendrath and Jon Bokenkamp recently opened up about the spinoff in an interview with Yahoo. The former described the spinoff as “big,” “crazy” and “has a real flash and flair and musical sensibility and scope.”
Bokenkamp added that he hopes viewers will focus on Tom and his mother’s relationship, saying, “My hope and desire is that [the audience] really hooks into Tom and Scottie’s very peculiar, curious, twisted, uncertain relationship and go on the journey to find out what that’s going to look like.”
Find out what happens to Tom when “The Blacklist: Redemption” premieres on Thursday, Feb. 23 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC. This follows a new episode of “The Blacklist” Season 4 which airs at 9 p.m. EST.
