'The Blacklist' Season 3 Spoilers: What Happened In Episode 14? 'Lady Ambrosia' Recap
In episode 13 of "The Blacklist," Liz (Megan Boone) continued to debate whether she should put her baby up for adoption. But she could be closer to knowing what she wants to do after taking on a case that involves missing children in episode 14. Meanwhile, Red (James Spader) also revealed more about what happened to her mother in the "Lady Ambrosia" episode of the NBC drama.
Episode 14 begins with Red offering Liz a trust account for her child, which she refuses. He then goes on to tell her about a case that sounds like a fairy tale, where children are taken to a house in the woods and promised eternal youth by a woman known as Lady Ambrosia. Children are also being killed by Lady Ambrosia. He learns of the case after a boy named Ethan (Hays Wellford) turns up after he'd been reported dead.
Liz briefs the team about other cases of children who were believed to be dead but later reappeared. Liz tries to do a psych evaluation on Ethan, but he is autistic and doesn’t speak. Ethan’s parents arrive at the hospital and are shocked to see him after thinking their son was dead. Aram (Amir Arison) informs Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) that the parents were putting Ethan up for adoption days before he disappeared.
Cooper (Harry Lennix) wants Ressler and Samar (Mozhan Marnò) to look into adoption agencies. They search for an adoption agent named Noah (Mark Blum), who Ethan’s parents had met with before Ethan disappeared. Noah and his wife, Lady Ambrosia, are the ones behind the children disappearing. To keep Ethan’s family quiet, Noah has his son kill Ethan’s mother.
Liz takes Ethan home with her and Red shows up to try to get Liz to take the money again. She tells him she’s tired of his men keeping watch on her home and that she’s putting her baby up for adoption because her life is too dangerous to bring a child into it.
“You think your life is too dangerous for a child, but what is your life without one,” Red says. “I can tell you from personal experience, not much.”
Liz responds that for once he and Tom agree on something, which makes her realize Lady Ambrosia uses Noah to seek out parents looking to put their kids up for adoption. Each child Noah takes also has a disability.
Noah finds out that Liz has Ethan and he shows up at her place with a gun looking for the boy. Liz tries to wrestle the gun away from Noah as Ethan runs away. One of Red’s men, who watches over Liz’s place, runs in and takes down Noah. Liz then finds Ethan safe under the bed in another room.
Red is keeping Noah and Liz wants to know why he’s interested in the case. She tells Red she’s having difficulty deciding if she should actually put her baby up for adoption after she found potential parents willing to adopt. Liz asks Red how her parents did it.
Red reveals that the Cold War was too much for her father and when the Soviet Union started to collapse her father took her away. Her mother tried to follow and wanted them to be a family again, which is what they argued about the night of the fire. Red said her mother was never the same after that. She walked into the ocean and was never seen again.
It is then revealed that Red does have a reason to be interested in the Lady Ambrosia case. He is looking for a former KGB agent, Vasila Patinka (Jelena Stupljanin), and he finds her in a school teaching deaf children. Red wants to see something called the Poctoba Files but she says no. Red asks if answers about Vasila’s daughter, Anya (Gracie Beardsley), will change her mind. Vasila believes her daughter is dead, but it turns out she’s one of the children at Lady Ambrosia’s.
When Liz comes back home she sees that Ethan drew butterflies underneath her table. Cooper and Aram look at the picture Ethan drew. Looking into the location of the species of butterfly, they are able to trace it back to where the children are being kept.
Red, however, beats the FBI to Lady Abrosia’s home after getting the location out of Noah. Red and Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) arrive at Lady Ambrosia’s and are able to save Anya. It’s revealed the reason Lady Ambrosia takes disabled children and kills them is because she believes she’s saving them from a cruel world.
The disabled son overhears the conversation and Red tells him that there’s nothing wrong with him, but his mother is a monster. When Red leaves, the son drags his mother off to the woods and throws her down a well. He then jumps in after her as the FBI arrives to save the rest of the children. Liz also reunites Ethan with his father when the case is over.
After delivering Anya back to her mother, Red gets a file from the former KGB agent that says “Poctoba – Rostova” on it. Red may have been lying about what really happened to Liz’s mother.
Other Major Moments From Episode 14:
Tom (Ryan Eggold) appears to be home free with lots of money to bring back to Liz and the baby. However, his ex-girlfriend, Gina (Margarita Levieva), betrays him and the rest of the men from the diamond heist in episode 13. She has their getaway van ambushed and it looks like Tom was shot dead.
Liz calls Tom at the end of the episode because she hasn’t heard from him, and he’s shown clinging to life and being rolled into a hospital.
