Blackpink Sets A Record, Makes Career-Best Entry on Billboard's 'Hot 100' Chart

South Korean girl group Blackpink made its career-best entry on Billboard’s 'Hot 100' chart with its latest single titled "Ice Cream" which made it to No. 13 on the chart.
Blackpink’s "Ice Cream" was released on Aug. 28 as the second single of Blackpink's upcoming debut studio album titled "The Album." The Korean-language album is set to release on Oct. 2.
The four-member girl group set the record for becoming the first-ever K-pop girl group to enter the top 20 rankings on Billboard’s "Hot 100" chart. According to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, "Ice Cream" had 18.3 million streams and 23 thousand downloads from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3.
On Sept. 8, Billboard took to twitter to announce that Blackpink’s "Ice Cream" featuring Selena Gomez ranked up at No. 13 on the charts, which is the farthest they’ve made it on the rankings since the band’s debut.
"@BLACKPINK scores a new career-best rank on the Billboard #Hot100 songs chart, as #IceCream with @selenagomez, debuts at No. 13," Billboard captioned the tweet.
Blackpink first made it to the “Hot 100” chart in 2018 with their single “Ddu-Du-Ddu-Du" which made it to No. 55 on the rankings. In 2019, with “Kill This Love” the band ranked at No. 41, according to Allkpop.
Following the release of "Sour Candy" featuring Lady Gaga and "How You Like That" the group had achieved a ranking of No. 33 on the charts, which was the highest they had gotten till now.
This year, Blackpink successfully made it to the top 20 with "Ice Cream" which debuted at No. 13 making it their new career-best ranking on the chart. The single also holds the record for the highest number of pre-orders for a girl group album.
The pre-orders for their upcoming album have been open since Aug. 28 and successfully gained over 800,000 orders within the first six days.
Meanwhile, the South Korean boy group BTS holds the record for being the first K-pop band to reach the No.1 spot. They have held the No. 1 position on the charts for two consecutive weeks with their latest all-English single "Dynamite."
