Blackpink's Lisa Becomes Billboard's Most Successful K-Pop Artist On Pop Airplay Chart
KEY POINTS
- Lisa has entered Billboard's Pop Airplay chart both as a member of Blackpink and as a solo artist
- Her single "Money" is currently at No. 35
- Lisa was hailed TC Candler's Most Beautiful Face of 2021
After placing two songs on Billboard's Pop Airplay chart, Blackpink's Lisa has earned the title as the most successful K-pop musician ever to appear on the tally.
The 24-year-old singer and dancer has reached the largest audience on pop radio in the U.S. compared to her peers in the K-pop industry. She has only appeared twice on the tally but is already considered a big win because K-pop acts have never figured in the tally until lately.
Lisa's second solo single "Money," which was released on Nov. 9, 2021, is at No. 35 and has been there for three weeks now. The upbeat track made history after it became the first track by a female K-pop artist to enter the tally.
As a member of Blackpink, Lisa previously entered the Pop Airplay chart when the girl group's "Ice Cream," their collaboration track with Selena Gomez, landed at No. 21. The song stayed on the chart for eight weeks and became the quartet's biggest hit in the U.S.
Lisa has also become the first K-pop musician to place two songs on the Pop Airplay ranking. The other members of Blackpink have so far managed to put one entry to the tally, while fellow South Korean girl group, Loona, had also previously sent one tune to the list.
After recovering from COVID-19 in December, Lisa was hailed as TC Candler's Most Beautiful Face Of 2021. Lisa beat fellow Blackpink member Roseanne Park (Rosé), TWICE's Tzuyu, Momoland's Nancy Jewel McDonie, Hollywood actress Gal Gadot, Israeli Fashion model Yael Shelbia and Philippine celebrity Ivana Alawi.
Her solo debut track, "Lalisa," also made it to No. 45 of Genius.com's 50 Best Songs of 2021.
She ended 2021 by enjoying a dinner date with her close friend and Blackpink member, Rosé.
"A lovely last dinner date of this year with my bestie @roses_are_rosie before we turn 25," Lisa wrote.
Rosé will turn 25 in February ahead of Lisa, who will celebrate her birthday in March.
