Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani Wedding Prenup: How Will They Split Their Assets?
KEY POINTS
- Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani tied the knot in a private ceremony at his Oklahoma ranch Saturday
- Shelton has built a fortune of $100 million from his stint on "The Voice" and successful music career
- Stefani is reportedly worth $150 million
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani tied the knot over the weekend, eight months after announcing their engagement. It was reported last year that they planned to sign a prenup prior to getting married, but what would a potential agreement between the couple look like?
The couple tied the knot Saturday at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch, where he had a chapel built for his wedding to Stefani, Page Six reported, citing an unnamed source. The ceremony was kept small and private and was attended by only 40 guests, including their families and “The Voice” co-star Carson Daly, USA Today reported.
After they announced their engagement in October 2020, Us Weekly reported, citing unnamed sources, that Stefani and Shelton had been “in prenup talks for a few months.” According to the insider, Stefani “can’t afford” to not sign a prenuptial agreement with Shelton after not having one with her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale.
Holly Davis, of Texas-based law firm Kirker Davis, who is not an attorney for either of the two singers, suggested to Fox Business last year that a potential agreement between the couple will likely address “assets that are held in both of their names,” what they each own right now, any growth or income and assets or projects that will be funded in the future by the money they have at the time of signing the prenup.
The lawyer also speculated that Shelton and Stefani will likely keep earnings from their records separate, except for sales from songs they collaborated on. Davis suggested that this could also apply to their “The Voice” salaries.
“I can't imagine an artist whose job is to create songs that come from their own head and their own body and their own heart, would want to share any royalties or rights to their independent creations,” Davis told the outlet. “I would be shocked if they shared any of the earnings that came from their collections, their songwriting, their catalogs, their albums, their tours, any of that.”
The lawyer further suggested that Shelton and Stefani likely won't merge their fortunes but instead will contribute to their lifestyle from their respective independent wealth.
In May 2020, Shelton and Stefani bought their first house together, a $13.2 million mansion in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles, Variety reported. The massive residence has roughly 13,000 square feet of living space and came equipped with a four-car garage, a home theater and a backyard pool.
Shelton has an estimated net worth of $100 million as of 2020, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The country singer was believed to be receiving $4 million per cycle during the early seasons of “The Voice,” where he's served as coach since 2011, but the outlet said he currently earns roughly $13 million per cycle.
He made his debut in the music industry in 2001 with his very first single “Austin,” which spent five weeks as no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country chart. He has since sold more than 10 million albums and 35 million singles worldwide.
Shelton also has a successful music career and owns several properties, including a string of Ole Road restaurants, a home in Lake Texoma and his Ten Point ranch in Oklahoma.
On the other hand, Stefani has an estimated net worth of $150 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. She first became widely known in the 1990s as the lead singer of the band No Doubt. The group was founded by the singer’s brother, who was also the band’s keyboardist.
The band's single “Don’t Speak” from their 1995 album “Tragic Kingdom” went on to sell more than 16 million copies worldwide, according to the outlet. No Doubt received multiple Grammy Awards for their 2001 album “Rock Steady” album, which featured the hit songs “Hey Baby” and “Underneath It All.”
Aside from her successful music career, Stefani was also a coach on “The Voice” for four seasons and owns a clothing brand that launched in 2004 called L.A.M.B. Her brand has sold various products in addition to clothing, from perfume and makeup to dolls.
