‘Blue Sky’: Everything To Know About BTS-Inspired Drama Series
KEY POINTS
- “Blue Sky” will tell the story of how the members of BTS came together
- The first script reading for the drama took place in mid-August
- “Blue Sky” is scheduled to begin production in September
A television series based on K-pop superstars BTS is set to begin production soon.
Titled “Blue Sky,” the coming-of-age drama series will tell the story of how BTS came together. It will feature a mix of fiction and reality, with actors playing the younger versions of BTS members Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook.
“Storytelling will be expanded in stages to include artists in our multi-label organization,” Bang Si-hyuk, founder and co-CEO of Big Hit Entertainment, said during a corporate briefing presentation last year. “Big Hit is currently preparing a drama series together with a leading Korean production company based on the Bangtan Universe, slated for release in the second half of 2020. It will be a story set in the BU about how the seven boys first met.”
Filming is set to begin in September, according to South Korean media reports.
Details about “Blue Sky” have been sparse, and there has been no official announcement on who will play the lead roles. However, the cast is said to have recently held the first script reading for the TV series.
“Blue Sky” cast and crew were also asked to sign secrecy waivers during their first script reading so as to prevent information about the drama from leaking.
Commenting on the secrecy surrounding the drama, a source said the upcoming TV series contains a number of sensitive issues about BTS.
“I don’t know why they are being this secretive about it. I just heard there are many sensitive issues related to BTS in the drama, but I don’t know the exact reason why they are doing this,” the source told South Korean newspaper Ilgan Sports.
However, the source added, “It’s embarrassing that they’re trying to keep it such a secret, even though I know enough about the drama as an outsider.”
Earlier, it was speculated that “To All The Guys Who Loved Me” actor Seo Ji Hoon will play a key role in the drama series. But the rumor was shut down by his management agency.
“We have never received an offer for this drama,” a statement from Management KOO read. “Nothing has been confirmed for Seo Ji Hoon’s next project. This is the first time we have even heard about this drama. We have not received any scripts with the same title either.”
“Blue Sky” is helmed by Kim Jae Hong, who worked on “Blooded Palace: The War of Flowers,” “Your Neighbor’s Wife,” and “Beloved Eun-dong,” from a script written by Kim Soo Jin, who penned “Old Miss Diary.” Chorokbaem Media is the production company associated with the project.
Original intended for a 2020 premiere, “Blue Sky” is now expected to be released next year.
