Indianapolis, Indiana--The bodies of a man and his three young children, who disappeared last week, were found Tuesday night alongside a submerged car in a pond in the south of Indianapolis.
The police had launched a search operation for the family when they went missing after going on a fishing trip.
The bodies were confirmed to be those of Kyle Moorman, 27, and his children Kyran Holland, 1, Kyannah Holland, 2, and Kyle Moorman II, 5, all of whom were last seen on July 6, the Associated Press reported, citing the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
The causes and manners of their deaths are yet to be revealed.
The authorities responded to the site after getting a report of a dead person in the water. The bodies and a car were found where Kyle would often visit for fishing at night, Indy Star reported.
Moorman’s sister, Mariah Moorman, said the former's phone rang for the last time on July 7 at around 12:40 a.m. ET, a few hours after he went for the fishing adventure.
"As far as we know, he was coming out here to go fishing," Mariah told the Indy Star. "That’s what he told my sister. It’s not odd. He does it all the time."
Family and friends of the Moormans had offered a $10,000 cash reward in exchange for any information leading to the whereabouts of the family. They had searched the pond and the surrounding area near the intersection of Bluff Road and West Troy Avenue for days before the bodies were recovered. The police search operation involved private helicopter and volunteers with a personal boat.
William Muse, a family member of Kyle Moorman’s mother, and other relatives were disappointed that investigators didn't search the pond sooner. "They should have at least tried," Muse told Indy Star.
Assistant Chief Chris Bailey said the dive teams had not searched the pond earlier because, "That's circumstances that the investigators are going through. They follow up multiple leads. They follow their processes, they follow their procedures. As we piece this all together we'll know more about the why's and how's that led us here tonight and other locations we've been at as we investigated."
"This is heartbreaking for everyone involved," Bailey said. "Regardless of circumstances, we know a man and three young kids are dead tonight. We don't know why and we don't know how ... We all need to support the family and wrap our arms around them tonight and the days that are to come as they grieve this loss."
