‘The Bold Type’ To Replace ‘Pretty Little Liars’ On Freeform?
A teaser for “The Bold Type” was released following Tuesday night’s second to the last episode of “Pretty Little Liars” Season 7.
The series, created by Sarah Watson, is based on the life of Hearst Magazine’s COO and former editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan magazine, Joanna Coles. “The Bold Type” has officially been picked up by Freeform and will premiere on July 11.

According to TV Line, the female-powered series will follow the lives of Jane (Katie Stevens), Kat (Aisha Dee) and Sutton (Meghann Fahy). The three characters work together at Scarlet publication. On her first day at work, Jane will receive a new assignment from the magazine’s EIC, Jacqueline (Melora Hardin). After completing the task, Jacqueline will praise Jane’s work, and the two of them will team up again in the future.
Sutton’s career, on the other hand, is on a standstill. She’s still an assistant at Scarlet, but her personal life is more exciting than any of her friends’. Sutton is in a secret no-strings-attached relationship with board member Richard (Sam Page). When Jane and Kat find out about Sutton’s relationship with Richard, they grow very concerned over what it can do to her future career.
Meanwhile, “Pretty Little Liars” is wrapping up its seventh season next Tuesday. The highly anticipated series finale will answer some of the biggest questions throughout Season 7 and the entire series since its inception. There are some speculations suggesting that “The Bold Type” is being pegged as a replacement for the Lucy Hale-starrer for the very reason that it also revolves in a group of women who are all friends.
But unlike “Pretty Little Liars,” the problems that Jane, Kat and Sutton will experience are more realistic. There won’t also be a mysterious Big Bad in the show.
In other news, viewers are not exactly pleased with Freeform’s newest drama. Some of them said that they only watched the pilot because it featured “Transparent” star Hardin. Others said that there’s nothing special about the storyline in “The Bold Type.” Still, other viewers are concerned over the fact that the series could be Dee’s third canceled in a row. The actress previously appeared in “Chasing Life” and “Sweet/Vicious.”
