Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), the NFT collectible featuring unique pictures of cartoon apes built on the Ethereum blockchain, is expanding into the world of entertainment.

The popular NFT collectible is entering the entertainment world through a series of animated short films, titled "The Degen Trilogy" and produced by Coinbase. The cryptocurrency exchange platform revealed its ambitious plan, which involves BAYC and ApeCoin communities, via Twitter on Monday.

The characters in the upcoming series are based on specific BAYC NFTs, and Coinbase wants token holders to participate by submitting their own character descriptions, which will be judged by a yet-to-be-named Hollywood casting director.

Submission of entries is already open and the team will only receive submissions until 11 a.m. PST on Wednesday. "We’ve been inspired by the Bored Ape Yacht Club community and excited to invite them to co-create this film with us," said Coinbase entertainment & culture marketing director William Swann.

"The Degen Trilogy" is a series of animated short films, which according to Swann, is a "love letter" to Non-Fungible Token technology." The first film of the three-part animated shorts will be shown at NFT.NYC, a cryptocurrency conference set in New York from June 21 to 23.

The two others will be released over the next year, according to the trilogy's official website. The producer will eventually make the trilogy available to those with a Coinbase wallet through the exchange platform's official website, but specifics on the release date are yet to be announced.

The official Twitter handle of Bored Ape Yacht Club said they were "stoked that Coinbase is making a film series featuring the BAYC community." The account also encouraged BAYC holders to "submit your ape for casting."

Moreover, the Twitter handle assured Mutant Ape NFT holders that they would have their own casting call in the second animated short of the trilogy. "Mutants, don’t worry - this is the first film in a trilogy, and you’ll be getting your own casting call for part two," BAYC tweeted Monday.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club is one of the most popular NFT initiatives in the market. It has over $3.2 billion in total secondary market trade activity, with the cheapest NFT for sale at 11 ETH or around $333,694.
