Boxing Hall Of Famer Wants To See Joshua vs. Ruiz 2 In Mexico
A legendary boxing champ and hall of famer has revealed the best venue for the highly anticipated rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz.
Last June, Joshua vs. Ruiz made the headlines as underdog replacement Ruiz Jr. scored an upset win against the British champ. Two months later, the fight is still a hot subject. In fact, even in the most recent heavyweight bout between Adam Kownacki and Chris Arreola, the Joshua-Ruiz rematch was repeatedly discussed.
One of the boxing personalities present in the event was boxing legend Lennox Lewis. After the bout, Lewis was cornered by reporters and was asked about his thoughts about the epic Joshua vs. Ruiz fight.
In an interview with FightHype.com backstage, Lewis discussed what he believed was wrong about Joshua coming into the Ruiz fight. According to Lewis, Joshua didn’t look the same and even assumed that the fellow British boxer has “mental issues.” More importantly, Lewis noted that if Joshua’s camp wouldn’t be able to “fix what’s wrong” with him, the Mexican champ will win the rematch.
“I think if they don’t fix what’s wrong with Anthony Joshua, Andy ruiz wins that fight, hands down. It must be mental, because he didn’t look the same coming into the ring like he usually looks,” Lewis explained.
Lewis then continued by stating that Ruiz was able to finish Joshua because the British champ wasn’t fully focused on the fight.
“I think Anthony Joshua made it easy for Andy Ruiz because he wasn’t fully there,” Lewis added.
In a different video, the three-time world heavyweight champion revealed where he would really want to see the said rematch.
“You know where I really wanna see the fight?, In Mexico baby!,” Lewis revealed.
As per Lewis, it is just right to give the fans in Mexico “a chance” to see the fight, especially for those who weren’t able to travel to New York during the first meeting. Lewis also mentioned that the fight should really be held in Mexico because this is the first time the heavyweight division had a champion from the said country.
“Why not? First time in my history, a heavyweight champion from Mexico, I would never thought that was possible, but to see Andy Ruiz did it in such a fine fashion, why not? Give the fans in Mexico a chance to see the fight,” Lewis pointed.
The Joshua-Ruiz rematch is reportedly on the works but the venue is still not specified.
