  • Bernard Hopkins is not entirely sold about Errol Spence Jr.'s eye injury
  • Hopkins feels Spence could be more transparent
  • Many expect Manny Pacquiao to continue fighting after his Aug. 21 bout

Bernard Hopkins is considered one of the most successful boxers who fought for 28 years.

To this day, he remains up to date with the developments in boxing, including the supposed Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence fight.

As most know by now, Spence had to withdraw from the Aug. 21 clash due to an eye injury that required immediate surgery.

The 31-year-old is already out of surgery, probably enough proof that he did suffer a torn retina that required emergency attention.

However, Hopkins seems skeptical about the injury when he gave his on "Little Giant Boxing and KO Artist Sports" show via Boxingscene.

“I like Spence, I respect Spence. I know he is always ready for any challenge. I just think… I just have some suspicions about this whole thing. I just think the way it manifested and came out suddenly and so fast… I’ll just say stay tuned,” Hopkins stated.

Hopkins feels that Spence should provide proof of his ailments. For his part, “The Executioner” stressed how he would have become transparent if something similar happened to him.

“Most people won’t dare to question it or ask for more details. I’m the type of person, I’ll show the X-ray to the world. If I’m ready to fight, I’ll say ‘look, it’s a hairline fracture or it’s a straight cut-through broken bone,’” he said.

Either way, the reality is that Pacquiao will now face a new opponent in Yordenis Ugas.

The change in opponent alters the rapport a bit with the "Pac-Man" now a heavy favorite to prevail over the Cuban boxer.

Pacquiao is leaving the door open to face Spence again. But this is under the condition that the WBC and IBF welterweight champion returns in a timely fashion.

At 42, most are awaiting if Pacquiao will call it a career by the end of 2021. However, some people believe he can fight longer, ironically follow something similar to Hopkins’ run.

Among those who believed Pacquiao can fight for as long as he wants to is former amateur boxer Cam F. Awesome when he appeared on the Sports For All PH podcast hosted by Filipino journalists Vincent Juico, Rica Aquino and Brian Yalung.

“How old was Bernard Hopkins? He fought at 51. He was dominating. We were trained to think that like after 25 it’s a little bit downhill,” Awesome stated. “I have seen a picture of him (Pacquiao) overweight in all my life. He has been taking care of his body. That man is a machine. So yeah, someone may say he is 42 but he ain’t no 42."
