Brazilian Footballer Ronaldinho, Brother Under Judicial Investigation For Entering Paraguay With Fake Passport
Legendary Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho and his brother were cited by officials in Paraguay for allegedly using false documentation to enter the country.
On Wednesday, officials entered the hotel room where Ronaldinho and his brother were staying and found the passports. The footballer was in the South American country for a charity event.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Paraguay's interior minister Euclides Acevedo confirmed the incident saying, “Ronaldinho and his brother are not being detained, they are still under judicial investigation and they have to testify. Then it will be decided whether they will be arrested or not.”
According to reports, the brothers remained in the hotel room under the custody of the Paraguayan authorities and were expected to report to the prosecutor's office Thursday. Reports claimed that a man accompanying the brothers was arrested by the authorities. The brothers, who were cooperating with the officials, allegedly claimed that they “were tricked” by the arrested man.
The footballer’s passport was confiscated by the Brazilian government in 2018 for unpaid environmental fines.
