  • Laundrie bought a burner phone from an AT&T store on Sept. 4
  • The FBI agent said evidence shows Laundrie's parents supported him and not the Petito family
  • O'Connell said the case is coming to a close

A former FBI agent has said that she believes Brian Laundrie, the prime suspect in the death of his fiancée Gabby Petito, will be caught alive and that the case is close to ending.

During an interview on “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on Thursday, former FBI agent Maureen O’ Connell said she believes the case is coming to a close as more information about Laundrie comes to life.

"I have a feeling that [Laundrie] is going to be found, and he is going to be found alive. All the information that's been coming in for weeks now, as you layer it upon itself, you can start to see all these things coming to fruition,” O’Connell said. "I think it's getting to the end."

Her remarks come after Steven Bertolio, the Laundrie family’s attorney, confirmed reports claiming that Brian had bought a burner phone and opened an account at an AT&T store on Sept. 4 —three days after he returned to his parents’ Florida home alone from his cross-country trip with Petito.

“I can confirm that a phone was purchased on September 4, 2021, and Brian opened an account with AT&T for that phone," Bertolio told NewsNationNow. “Brian left that phone at home the day he went for a hike in the preserve on September 14, 2021, and the FBI now has that phone.”

When asked why Laundrie needed to purchase a new phone, Bertolio said he could not “speculate” the reason.

"He wanted the authorities to think he did not have a phone," O’Connel told Cavuto, referring to the purchase of the AT&T phone, according to Fox News. “Now they're starting to really piece together the activities of the parents. When you look at what was done, and what wasn't done, when you look at the timing of that, you can find the point where they decided they were going to 100% support their son and not support the Petito family or Gabby."

Laundrie has been on the run since Sept. 14, when his parents said he went for a hike in nearby Carlton Reserve. His family reported him missing on Sept. 17.

Authorities found Petito’s remains in a national forest in Wyoming on Sept. 19.
