'Bridgerton' Season 2: What Will Happen To Phoebe Dynevor's Daphne And Regé-Jean Page's Simon?
KEY POINTS
- Phoebe Dynevor's Daphe will remain to be a vital character in "Bridgerton" Season 2
- Daphne has become an adult of the family and will be her siblings' rock in the new season
- Daphne will lead the way in terms of what love and marriage means and pass it on to Anthony
Phoebe Dynevor's Daphe will remain one of the main characters in "Bridgergon" Season 2.
Dynevor and Regé-Jean Page made the audience fall in love with Daphne and Simon's love story in the first season of the period drama series on Netflix. However, the upcoming season will focus on her brother Anthony's (Jonathan Bailey) love life and might not feature the Duke of Hastings because Page only signed a one-year contract and refused to return to the series.
"Daphne remains a vital part of our story. She's now a devoted wife and, of course, still a loyal sister to her seven siblings," series creator Chris Van Dusen told Entertainment Weekly. "It's a bit of a reverse of their season 1 dynamic, in terms of Anthony sticking his nose in Daphne's business. Now Daphne gets to stick her nose in his."
He continued, "Daphne has become the adult of the family. She's found what she's looking for — she's had a baby, she's a wife and mother. There's a real confidence and womanhood about her this season."
Daphne would be very different from the first season where she was portrayed as a naive young woman. In the second season, she runs her family and will serve as her siblings' rock.
"Daphne's leading the way in terms of knowing what love is, what it means, and what marriage means, and she's trying to pass on that knowledge to Anthony," Van Dusen added.
Dynevor said her character is good at empathizing with people and showing them their blind spots. She already did it with Simon and would do the same to her older brother, Anthony.
The actress added that Daphne will also be "a lot looser" and "quite free." She will let her hair down and have fun.
An unnamed source told Page Six that Page refused to return to the series due to creative differences. He was allegedly not happy with what was planned for his character in Season 2 that "would have kept him a player but not the focal point of the show."
Meanwhile, the actor explained that he only signed a one-year contract, and he was already satisfied with the ending.
"It's a one-season arc. It's going to have a beginning, middle, end – give us a year," he told Variety. "I have nothing but excitement for 'Bridgerton' continuing to steam train off and conquer the globe. But there is also value in completing these arcs and sticking the landing."
"Bridgerton" Season 2 premieres March 25.
