Brielle Shooting: New Jersey Cops Arrest Suspect In Shore Town Shooting At The Sand Bar
New Jersey police have captured the man believed to have shot a woman early Tuesday morning in the parking lot of a restaurant in the shore town of Brielle, N.J.
The 35-year-old woman, who was not identified, is in critical but stable condition after being shot around 12:55 a.m. EDT Tuesday in the parking lot of the Sand Bar restaurant, a spokesman for the Monmouth County prosecutor’s office told NJ.com.
The suspect barricaded himself inside a condominium in nearby Point Pleasant. He was taken into custody around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, according to News 12 New Jersey.
A SWAT team surrounded the home during the standoff, and neighbors were evacuated from their homes at around 4 a.m., according to Melissa Brahney of News 12. Police reportedly told neighbors that the suspect lives on their block in the Bay Point Harbour condos.
The names of the suspect and the victim have not been released, but the woman was identified by witnesses as an employee of the Sand Bar, Brahney posted on Facebook.
The News 12 reporter said that the suspect was the establishment’s owner, citing neighbors.
“It has been so strange to cover a shooting and suspect search in Brielle and Point Pleasant Beach this morning-- neighbors at both scenes are telling us police identified the suspect they were looking for as the owner of the Sand Bar,” Brahney wrote on Facebook.
NJ.com spoke to Dave D’amBrosa, who said he owns the building where the Sand Bar is located as well as Arnold’s Brielle Yacht Club. He said police did not give him any information about the shooting.
The 35-year-old woman was shot once and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, according to NJ.com.
The Sand Bar has been closed since the shooting occurred, with two Brielle Police Department vehicles in the parking lot of the establishment and the entrance cordoned off with police tape.
