'Bringing Up Bates' Canceled; Fans Vent Anger On Twitter: 'We Will Not Watch UPtv'

"Bringing Up Bates" will no longer return to UPtv due to the network's decision to change its programming this year, and fans on Twitter were not happy to hear the news.

The official "Bringing up Bates" Twitter account released a statement about the show's future. Based on the statement, Gil, Kelly Jo Bates and their 19 kids will not return for another season.

"We will not be premiering 'Bringing Up Bates' season 11 on UPtv as planned as we will be focusing our programming in 2022 on movies and a new scripted series to be announced soon," the statement read. "When we premiered 'Bringing Up Bates,' the series was focused on parents with 19 kids who were teenagers and young children."

The network acknowledged that the show focused on the "love, laughs and big life moments" in the Bates' household. UPtv also thanked Gil and Kelly Jo for letting the audience into their home in the past ten seasons and the fans for supporting the show.

"We're looking forward to continuing to uplift you with our programming in the future," the network's statement concluded.

Twitter users immediately reacted to the announcement. Many were not happy, and some were even angry upon learning about the announcement.

"What a horrible decision," one commented.

"So will season 11 just release online or will it just never be released? Because if it isn't going to be released, I'm canceling my subscription," another wrote. A different user agreed, writing, "I'll be canceling my subscription as well," with angry face emoji.

"Will not be watching UPtv's new programming was only interested in @UPtv for 'Bringing Up Bates.' Sad you won't be airing it," a fourth netizen added.

"Sorry to hear this because it was one of the last decent family oriented shows left. Today's programming has too much vulgarity and profanity to be enjoyed by a family. What has happened to the shows representing families that have good Christian morals. We will not watch UPtv," a fifth user opined.

Another user said she would respect it if it were the Bates family's decision. However, if it's UPtv's, then it's a "bad one" because "it was legit the only reason I would turn on UPtv at all."

Meanwhile, some shared their theories on why the show got canceled especially because they already filmed Season 11. One speculated that there could be a "hidden scandal" that led to the cancellation. The netizen said hopefully it wasn't "Duggar-esque," referring to the cancellation of "19 Kids and Counting" and "Counting On" on TLC due to Josh Duggar's scandals.

The first show was canceled after Josh was accused of molesting five underage girls. The second one was canceled amid his trial when he was charged with receiving and possessing child pornography in July.

"Exactly. There's a scandal coming," another fan added.

Meanwhile, the family has released a statement about the cancellation on their blog. The post hinted that the family members were unaware of the network's plan.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share this news. Seven years after its premiere, 'Bringing Up Bates' has been canceled," the family wrote. "In its statement, UPtv shared that it will be shifting its focus to movies and a new scripted series that has not yet been revealed."
