British Actor Rowan Atkinson Injured After Crashing $1M McLaren F1
Rowan Atkinson, the British actor and comedian best known for his Mr. Bean character, crashed his $1 million car Thursday night, but managed to climb out of the wreck relatively unharmed.
Atkinson was driving a purple McLaren F1, a "supercar" that can reach speeds of nearly 250 miles per hour, when he lost control and drove off the road near Cambridge, England. According to reports, his car spun several times, hitting a tree and a road sign before catching fire.
The actor then climbed out of the car, police told reporters, with only a minor shoulder injury. He is recovering in a nearby hospital.
The Daily Mail has pictures of the wreckage.
Thursday night was the second time that the "Blackadder" star crashed a McLaren. He also did so in 1999, in celebration of the success of the "Mr. Bean" movie. The McLaren is a far cry from the yellow one-seater that Mr. Bean drives in the television series, which has been run over by a tank and driven via loveseat.
Atkinson, who was invited to the Royal wedding in April, has a passion for fast cars. He has a large collection, including a vintage Rolls-Royce and Aston Martins, and has written guest articles for car magazines.
