Buddhist Monk Falls Asleep While Using Charging Mobile Phone, Electrocuted To Death
A Buddhist monk was electrocuted to death while playing on his charging cell phone. His body was found in his hut in Thailand on Monday.
According to reports, a search was launched for 49-year-old Phra Rueang Yot on Monday morning after it was revealed that he hadn’t joined his fellow monks to perform missionary work in a nearby village over the weekend. The other monks arrived at his hut and found him lying motionless on the bed. Upon a closer look, they noticed his phone by his side which was connected to a charger. His hand was in the air as if he was holding the device.
Police were called to the scene. The responding officers declared him dead and said he died from electric shock while using a charging phone. Police also believe the monk died Friday.
“The monk may have fallen asleep while using his mobile phone as it charged. Then somehow he was electrocuted and remained there for three nights before people found him,” Police Captian Adisak Boonchaiyo said.
Meanwhile, the monk’s colleagues said he spent most of his time playing games on his phone.
“Ruengyot often talked about his broken charger and planned to buy a new one in the next few weeks. But he just did not have chance to buy one, then this tragic accident happened. This incident will be a lesson to everyone who uses their mobile phone while it is charging or people who have broken equipment,” said Abbot Kittipanyakorn, one of the monk’s colleagues.
