A 33-year-old California man was arrested earlier this week after he tried to rob the same bank he looted the day before, police said.
Samuel Brown, of San Diego, was arrested Tuesday after police received a call of a robbery at the Chase Bank located in the 17000 block of Newhope Street at around 11:10 a.m., the Fountain Valley Police Department said in a statement released a day after Brown's arrest.
Brown had robbed the same branch Monday, but authorities — who received reports of the heist at around 3 p.m. that day — were unable to catch him before he fled with a "large amount of cash," police said.
Authorities, however, were able to identify Brown from the incident and they detained him without incident on his second bank run.
The bank robber allegedly presented a note to the teller demanding cash during his first hit, while police did not disclose any additional details regarding his second attempt. The amount of money he got away with in the first robbery was also not disclosed.
Brown, who has prior convictions for robbery in his home city of San Diego, was charged with multiple counts of robbery and an outstanding arrest warrant. He was booked into Orange County Jail, where he was held on a $170,000 bail.
A similar arrest was made in New York in July when a 52-year-old man was accused of robbing a bank one day after he was released from jail for allegedly pulling off another bank heist days before.
The man, identified as Chi Ngo, allegedly robbed two separate Chase Bank branches on June 8 and 10.
The alleged recidivist nabbed approximately $2,300 in cash from his first heist in a Chase Bank located in lower Manhattan's Canal Street. He was later arrested and charged with third-degree robbery and possession of burglar's tools after a hammer and box cutter were found on him.
Ngo was arraigned the next day and was granted a prosecutor's request for a supervised release. He then proceeded to rob another Chase Bank branch on Fifth Avenue near West 44th street two days after he was arrested.
Ngo handed a note to a bank teller warning them he had a gun and that they should put cash in his bag in both incidents.
Police arrested Ngo 10 minutes after he fled the second bank with $100.
