'Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2' Leak Suggests New Post-Campaign Game Mode
KEY POINTS
- The upcoming "Modern Warfare" sequel is rumored to have a game mode like Spec Ops
- The mode reportedly has four maps in development
- The new "Call of Duty" game is expected to arrive next year
Leaks and rumors regarding the upcoming sequel to 2019’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare” are slowly coming out of the internet’s woodwork. This time, fans are speculating that a new story-driven game mode might ship with “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” once it’s released.
The new game mode is allegedly called “DMZ,” and it’s anticipated to be a continuation of the main campaign, complete with its own storyline, Comicbook reported. “Call of Duty”-centric Twitter user RalphsValve claimed that DMZ will focus on particular characters, quests and war fronts from the main campaign.
If these claims are true, then at the very least, players can expect a game mode similar to “Modern Warfare’s” Spec Ops as it perfectly matches the description laid out by RalphsValve.
The latest iteration of Spec Ops mode focused more on PvE gameplay where players had to accomplish missions set in various, repurposed multiplayer maps. It served as a decent follow-up to “Modern Warfare’s” stellar campaign, though many players found it to be lacking in many areas.
Another leaker, GhostOfHope, claimed that DMZ will have at least four different maps. Whether or not these maps will be completely unique is unknown, but the leaker said that each map features unique environments, ranging from wide and open to tight and condensed.
This description also applies to the maps in the previous “Modern Warfare” game. Spec Ops took players across all of the major areas featured in the campaign and multiplayer, from Verdansk to the ghost town of Pripyat.
So far, the actual details regarding the next “Call of Duty” game are still murky apart from a previous announcement, which confirmed that it will be a sequel to “Modern Warfare.” Infinity Ward will once again lead the sequel’s development.
However, there are rumors of a full reveal coming this May, with a teaser reveal slated for April 30. Still, fans are advised to take this information with a grain of salt.
The game itself is expected to launch in 2023 as Activision Blizzard reportedly decided to halt their yearly “Call of Duty” release schedule after “Vanguard” failed to meet expectations.
