Camilla, Andrew Parker Bowles, Princess Anne Not Involved In ‘Love Triangle,’ No Overlap
Camilla and Princess Anne were rumored to have been involved in a love triangle with Andrew Parker Bowles. However, this isn’t necessarily accurate.
In “The Crown,” it was revealed that while Princess Anne was having an affair with Bowles, the latter was also dating Camilla. Eventually, Bowles left Princess Royal to marry the Duchess of Cornwall.
Royal author Tina Brown wrote in “The Diana Chronicles” how Bowles adored women just like his father. And he set his sights on Princess Anne as a diversion. However, Bowles never wanted to get into anything serious with the royal.
“There was a romantic re-enactment of ‘La Ronde’ on the dance floor at Annabel’s one night in 1971 when it was clear that Princess Anne was in love with Andrew Parker Bowles, Camilla was in love with him too, and Charles was in love with Camilla,” she said.
While speaking with Vanity Fair, Sally Bedell Smith said that this wasn’t necessarily the case. The royal expert said that Princess Anne and Bowles started dating in 1970. Prince Charles and Camilla’s romance only started in 1972. And during this time, Princess Anne and Bowles’ romance had long been over.
Smith also revealed that Prince Charles fell madly in love with Camilla after meeting her that summer. But Camilla only saw the heir to the throne as her fling because he was the Prince of Wales. By the looks of it, Camilla didn’t think that someone like Prince Charles would fall in love with her.
One year later, Camilla wrote a letter to Prince Charles telling him that she already agreed to marry Bowles. The Prince of Wales was heartbroken at the thought of Camilla marrying someone else that he urged her to not push through with the wedding. However, Camilla still wed Bowles.
“Nevertheless, the wedding went ahead. Her mother, Rosalind, was not entirely happy about it – she didn’t think Andrew treated her daughter very well – but Camilla was determined,” Smith said.
