Despite their 14 years of marriage, Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ love story is filled with scandal and tragedy. The Duchess of Cornwall was brutally vilified following her affair with Princess Diana’s husband, but a new documentary will show the public a different side.

Charles and Diana finalized their divorce in 1996 after she discovered the Prince of Wales was having an affair with Camilla. The following year, Diana was in a fatal car crash that left her young sons, Prince William and Prince Harry devastated.

Due to the scandal, Camilla became the target of harsh public criticism. Although Camilla was aware of the “horrible press” published about her, she was able to stay silent due to her special bond with William and Harry.

Juliet Rice, the producer of “The Real Camilla” documentary, revealed she was able to gain a better understanding of how Camilla dealt with public scrutiny by talking to actress Joanna Lumley.

“She’s said that she’s seen all of this horrible press, all of this drama [about Camilla]. But what gives her a sense of calm is that she knows the boys actually get on really well with her,” she told Fox News.

“William and Harry adore her. And her children get on extremely well with William and Harry,” Rice added.

Although the documentary could have been Camilla’s chance to tell her side of the story regarding the affair, the TV special will focus on her life in the monarchy.

“There’s been this historical misconception about Camilla because of the circumstances surrounding Prince Charles’ marriage to Princess Diana. There’s a lot of misconceptions about what really went on there… And throughout all that coverage, the ‘80s and beyond, she’s never said a word,” the producer revealed.

“We didn’t talk to her about that, but it was nice to see her as a human, a relatively normal human being… As the years go on, she’s becoming a great matriarch of the royal family… I think she has become a great support system for the younger royals.”

Prince Charles and Camilla married in 2005, in a quaint ceremony attended by Prince William and Prince Harry. Although the brothers speak fondly of Princess Diana, it appears they have also formed a close bond with their stepmother.

“The Real Camilla” is scheduled to air August 1 on True Royalty TV.
