Golden Boy Promotions CEO Eric Gomez wants Saul “Canelo” Alvarez to fight his nemesis Gennadiy Golovkin next.

Alvarez vs. Golovkin is one of the most notable rivalries in boxing today. Although the newly crowned four-division title holder has repeatedly dismissed the idea of a third showdown with “GGG,” Golden Boy Promotions believes that the fight should happen soon.

In a recent interview with Fighthype.com, the Golden Boy Promotions CEO reaffirmed that Alvarez is indeed the new face of boxing. Gomez wants critics to check Alvarez’s resumé and see “who he has fought.” According to Gomez, the redhead champ has a list of world champions and former world champions under his belt.

“Look at who he (Canelo) has fought. He has fought the who’s who in boxing. If you see how many world champions and former world champions he has fought, it’s incredible, it’s unmatched,” Gomez pointed out.

When pressed about who Alvarez should fight next given that the Mexican superstar has already cemented his name in the list of pound-for-pound bests, Gomez only mentioned one name – “GGG.”

“Those (Canelo and Golovkin) are big because of the styles. Two very good, tough, very close fights,” Gomez said.

“The fans love it because of the styles. It was all action. IT was back and forth, both guys landed big punches. They match up very well,” he continued.

To make it official, Gomez was asked if it is safe to say that Golden Boy Promotions is eyeing for an Alvarez vs. Golovkin 3 fight soon. The CEO was quick to make a definitive “Yes” response.

“Yes I would,” Gomez responded.

Another strong case for the Alvarez-Golovkin 3 to actualize is the recent reports claiming that DAZN lost a significant amount of money in the Alvarez vs. Kovalev fight.

According to Fight Nights, despite creating an entertaining fight, Alvarez-Kovalev struggled at the box office, generating only $8.173 million, and selling around 10,000 tickets. It wasn’t exactly a poor number for the average world champion, but considering that DAZN signed Alvarez to a 5-year, 11-fight deal worth $365 million, the said amount was a bit unsatisfactory.

Meanwhile, Alvarez’s fellow Mexican world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, believes that despite being a sure winner, Alvarez should still agree to fight Golovkin once again for the fans.

"He needs to make that fight again with Triple G. I think Canelo would win. People want to see that fight. Golovkin looked very different with Derevyachenko. He changed trainers and I don't think that he looked good in that fight," Marquez explained.
