Belize is formerly British Honduras and borders with Mexico in the northwest. In a statement, Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the passenger's death and said: “We can confirm that 7 guests traveling on Carnival Vista were involved in a bus accident on an independent tour in Belize today.”
Injured admitted to the local hospital
"Local authorities confirmed all guests were taken to the local hospital and one died. Carnival Care Team and shipboard medical team have been sent to the local hospital to support our guests, and all emergency contacts have been notified," the statement added.
Carnival updated that Carnival Vista “departed Belize Wednesday evening and will arrive in Cozumel as scheduled.”
MSC Cruises told Cruise Radio that six of its passengers were among the injured in the accident.
According to local reports, the van carrying tourists left Jaguar Paw and soon it collided with another vehicle. Three residents of Belize including the driver died.
The names of tourists will be withheld until the embassy alerts the families.
A statement by the official at the U.S. State Department said: “We are aware of U.S. citizen casualties resulting from the traffic accident on George Price Highway in Belize. We extend our sincerest condolences to families of those lost in the accident.”
Meanwhile, Carnival Cruise Line launched an online retail store (shop.carnival.com) to help the purchase of exclusive Carnival merchandise.
This follows the good response to new Carnival-inspired logo items via the line’s social media channels, according to William Butler, vice president of retail services for Carnival Cruise Line.
Carnival Cruise is also scheduled to unveil the first roller coaster BOLT on its new ship Mardi Gras in August 2020 as reported by ESPN.
“This is the first time our fans can access and order all of our latest designs at their fingertips and have them shipped directly to their home. Our easy one-stop online shop now includes a special line of holiday favorites with a Carnival spin to help guests Choose Fun all season long.”
Carnival online store holiday products
The products sold in the Carnival online store will cover home decorating and traveling items along with the holiday season items carrying exclusive items such as ornament sets, ship-shaped cookie cutters and a waterproof ship-shaped floating Bluetooth speaker with LED lights.
A part of the fun holiday collection’s design was also overseen by Carnival’s Brand Ambassador John Heald. “I’ve had many roles at Carnival over the years, but being a co-designer for the new holiday collection – and a model might I add – has been a lovely first,” said Heald.
