Cat Kicked To Death By Man In Parking Lot, Disturbing Act Recorded
Two men from Lansing, Michigan, were arrested Wednesday for dropkicking a cat to death and recording the act.
An investigation began early July after the Ingham County Animal Control received the video of a man kicking the cat. The incident took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Soon after, the officers found the feline dead in a dumpster near the apartment.
Officials found it difficult to track the culprits as there was no CCTV camera in the parking lot.
“That does make it a little bit tougher, not having the security cameras but hopefully with the help from the community and people calling in their tips, we can get to the bottom of who was in the video, who recorded the video and all that information,” officer Michael O’Neil had said.
With the help of the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police, the culprits, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Coney and 20-year-old Kian Miller Jr., were arrested Wednesday. While one of them kicked the cat, the other recorded the act. Both the men were charged with killing and torturing an animal and could face up to seven years in prison.
“We were all disgusted by the act itself. But we’re pleased we were able to issue the warrants for the individuals, and pleased they’ll be brought to the courts for justice,” Ingham County Animal Control Director Jodi LeBombard said.
Appreciating people who gave tips to the animal control, she added, “They’re our eyes and ears on the streets. so without them reporting what they’re seeing, and their concerns, we wouldn’t know about many of the things that we do.”
“This is a great community that takes a strong stance on animals being treated fairly. We do not tolerate cruelty acts to our animals,” she added.
The residents of the apartment complex were shocked by the incident.
“It’s just upsetting, people can’t just leave peoples things alone. Animals alone. They’re animals,” one resident said.
Meanwhile, the two men were being held at the Ingham County Jail and were scheduled to appear in court Aug. 16.
