Another country was added to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Level 4 “very high” risk travel destinations on Monday.

The CDC updated the Level 4 category to now include Ukraine, moving it up from a “high” risk category listing last week.

Ukraine has reported over 2,913,000 cases of the coronavirus, with over 68,300 COVID-related deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. In the past week, it has recorded 145,923 new cases of the virus and 3,568 COVID-19 deaths, data from the university indicated.

The CDC said in its Level 4 warning for Ukraine that travel to the European country should be avoided especially for travelers who are unvaccinated, saying, “because of the current situation in Ukraine, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.”

This is the second continuous week that the CDC has added a new destination to the Level 4 category. Last week, Singapore was marked as a “high risk” location for contracting or spreading the virus.

Ukraine and Singapore are not the only countries that have the Level 4 “high risk” designation from the CDC as popular locations such as Austria, The Bahamas, Botswana, Croatia, Greece, Ireland, Jamaica, Maldives, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and the U.K. also carry the warning status.

Level 4 designations by the CDC are determined for countries that have more than 500 new COVID cases per 100,000 residents in the past 28 days.

The CDC also moved seven locations down from Level 4 “high risk” to Level 3 “high” status. These destinations included Guatemala, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritius, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin and Sri Lanka.

However, Egypt and the Dominican Republic were moved from a Level 2 “moderate” risk to the Level 3 “high” risk category, while the Cayman Islands was moved from a Level 1 “low” risk to a Level 3 “high” risk status.

The Level 3 warning from the CDC is determined when a location has from 100 to 500 new coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days.
