A reality television plastic surgeon from Newport Beach, Califonia, who was charged alongside his model girlfriend with drugging and sexually assaulting several women three years ago, appeared before court last week and faced their alleged victims.
Dr. Grant Robicheaux, 40, was initially charged in 2018 with raping and drugging seven women, while his 34-year-old girlfriend, Cerissa Riley, was charged with five assaults, the Los Angeles Times reported. The couple has pleaded not guilty and denied any non-consensual sex, according to the outlet.
Then-Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas alleged that the pair would meet their victims at local bars and restaurants, drug them and then take them home before sexually assaulting them. Investigators allegedly had about 1,000 of these videos on the suspects' phones, Rackauckas said.
Judge Frank Ospino heard arguments from attorneys for the victims and defendants as well as the prosecutors in a day-long preliminary hearing last Thursday, a report by KCAL 9 said.
One alleged victim told Ospino that she was "exhausted" by the twists and turns in the case against Robicheaux and Riley over the past three years, including the recent decision by Orange County Superior Court Judge Steven Bromberg to recuse himself from the case.
Robicheaux and Riley now face five and three charges, respectively, after Bromberg granted a motion from prosecution to dismiss charges related to two victims prior to recusing himself from the case in late July.
Another accuser, who was identified as Jane Doe 1, described the case as a "complete travesty," as per the Los Angeles Times.
"I've already begged a judge not to dismiss my case, and here I am again," she said.
Defense attorneys representing Robicheaux and Riley allegedly investigated her sexual history and harassed her and her parents after she came forward to report the alleged attack to prosecutors in 2018.
Additionally, she claimed she was "slut-shamed" by Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer when he sought dismissal of all charges against the couple a year later.
"Overall, this process has been awful," the woman told the court.
The woman's remarks came amid a request from state prosecutors to drop several rape charges that were filed against the couple as they indicated they plan to center their case on allegations lodged by two other alleged victims.
Ospino reportedly anticipated ruling on the prosecutors' request to narrow down the charges Thursday, but he opted to hold off until next week to review Jane Doe 1's witness impact statement and other court transcripts.
The judge indicated his desire to speed up the case and told attorneys this month that he wants to hold a preliminary hearing by the end of the year to determine whether or not the case can proceed to trial.
Robicheaux appeared in the television show "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male."
