Channing Tatum teased that fans can expect some big surprises from the third "Magic Mike" movie.
While promoting his directorial debut "Dog" in an interview with People, the 41-year-old actor shared some details about "Magic Mike's Last Dance," which will see him reprise his role as Magic Mike for the third time. Tatum teased that the third installment will be even bigger than the first two films in the franchise.
"I want it to be the Super Bowl of stripping," Tatum, 41, told the outlet. "I want dancing like we've never been able to do in the other two movies because we had to be honest to what the reality of that world is, which isn't great dancing."
Tatum cited his final dance sequence with Stephen "tWitch" Boss in Magic Mike XXL as an indication of the level of dancing they're going for in the third movie — which is not the type of dancing male strippers are known for.
"There was never anything in the real world that I actually stripped in that was even nearly as good as that [last dance]," he explained of his time as a male stripper, which inspired "Magic Mike."
The actor said they will be "breaking the rules" and the reality of the stripping world by featuring professional dancers from all over, including Russian ballet dancers. "I want to go for it and create a completely new genre of this form," he shared.
Aside from featuring professional dancers, the "21 Jump Street" actor said the third movie will have an "equal, if not even more centralized" female character for his own character to play off of and let the movie "be about a female's experience" rather than that of Mike's and the other men's.
"These movies are very, very female-forward. At least that is our intention," he added.
"Magic Mike Live," the stage show executive produced by Tatum currently running in Las Vegas and London, can give fans an idea of where "Last Dance" is headed, according to the actor.
Tatum explained that the live show was the "reason" they were making a third "Magic Mike" movie, revealing that he feels the two previous films were leading to the upcoming installment.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Tatum also teased that there is still time for Matthew McConaughey to join the cast of "Last Dance" and reprise his role as Xquisite club owner Dallas if he's open to it.
"I didn't know if Matthew would want to do it, he loves what he did in the first movie so much. He was like, 'I don't want to touch it,'" Tatum told ET.
Tatum is currently prepping to film the sequel in London and has been rehearsing with longtime friend and choreographer Alison Faulk.
No release date has been announced yet for "Magic Mike's Last Dance," but it will premiere exclusively on HBO Max, according to Deadline.
